Woman who fatally shot 14-year-old who broke into her home breaks silence to defend her actions
Aleah Wallace, residing in Fort Worth, Texas, is defending her decision to shoot and kill a 14-year-old intruder who was on the brink of entering her home. Wallace, a mother of four daughters living alone, recently spoke to Fox4 News, expressing the conflicting emotions she’s grappling with in the aftermath.
In response to escalating burglaries in her area and four attempted break-ins at her own home, coupled with an earlier incident of someone trying to break into her daughter’s room, Wallace decided to purchase a firearm for protection.
Recounting the critical moment, she shared, “I was cleaning my living room, sweeping my floor, and I heard my window start going back up. So I went, and I stood in the hallway. And I could see him standing at the window, lifting it up. I just shot.”
Despite police not filing any charges related to the shooting and death, the case is headed to a grand jury for further consideration.
Wallace, aware of the age of the intruder only after the fact, emphasized that in that crucial moment, she had to make a split-second decision to safeguard her family. “I have four daughters. It’s just me and my four daughters that stay there. I just was protecting my daughters,” she explained. Expressing regret over the intruder being 14, she added, “I’m devastated that he was 14. I hate that. I literally do. And I’m so sorry. But at that point, I had to think about my babies.”
Despite her intention to protect her family, Wallace is now facing eviction. The apartment management informed her that having a gun on the premises is prohibited, despite her efforts to alert them about the break-ins. Wallace, now given 30 days to vacate, expressed her frustration, saying, “I feel like I’m back at square one. I was there for six years, and now I don’t know what to do.”
