Expert reveals reason why UFO sightings increase around Christmas time
Experts have unveiled the reason behind a ‘slight uptick’ in UFO sightings during the holiday season.
As you enjoy your mulled wine and gaze at the night sky on Christmas Eve, contemplating the possible arrival of Santa and his reindeer, you might catch some movement above.
The question arises: is it Saint Nick, Rudolph and company, a plane, a mischievous Christmas light, or perhaps an alien or UFO?
During the festive period, Ron James, the media relations director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), explains that there is ‘a slight uptick’ in reports of UFO sightings. According to the expert, this increase typically occurs ‘twice a year,’ during both the summer and the Christmas holidays.
If you search ‘UFO sighting Christmas’ on X – formerly known as Twitter – you can see firsthand accounts. A post from 2020 reads: “Was it Santa? – Christmas Eve UFO Sighting in Dallas/Fort Worth Area.” Another post from yesterday (23 December) reads: “UFO Sighting or Santa In the Sky location Ohio.”
But why do reports surge at this time of the year?
James provides ‘a few reasons’ for the increased UFO sightings during the festive season. He tells The Daily Beast: “People might be paying more attention [because] they might be off work, they’re doing family activities and things they don’t normally do, so there’s more possibilities for people to encounter things. Then of course, there’s always Santa Claus and the reindeer.”
Steve Hudgeons, MUFON’s media relations director, echoes this sentiment, stating: “If there is an uptick, I can understand that because there’s a lot of people out during Christmas time shopping and doing things. They might be looking up in the air so I can understand it if there is.”
So, is it merely the result of festive spirits or tipsy observers thinking they’ve spotted Santa or some extraterrestrial revelers? Or could they genuinely be witnessing unidentified flying objects?
Chris Rutkowski, a Canadian UFO researcher with Ufology Research, reveals that while there is a ‘significant’ increase in reports around the Christmas season, most ‘UFO sightings’ have straightforward explanations. According to him, “Most were simply lights in the sky, and yes, some were of a single red light flying overhead followed by a string of others. But others did not seem to have a reindeer explanation.”
James concludes, “My feeling is that there’s not that there’s an actual increase in phenomenon occurring. It’s more that there’s more people in a position to see and experience things that might already be there pretty much consistently.”
Fortunately, there’s still time to make a Christmas wish for a glimpse of Santa or some extraterrestrial visitors. Perhaps tonight will be the night.
