Pierce Brosnan could face jail time after making Yellowstone National Park mistake
Pierce Brosnan, renowned for his role as James Bond, may face legal repercussions following a rule violation during a visit to Yellowstone National Park.
In addition to his roles as an actor and producer, Brosnan identifies himself as a painter and environmentalist on Instagram. Despite this, he allegedly disregarded environmental protection rules during his visit to Yellowstone in Wyoming on November 1.
While specific details about Brosnan’s visit remain undisclosed, records from the US District Court for the District of Wyoming indicate that the 70-year-old was cited for straying off designated paths in the park, renowned for its hydrothermal and geologic features. He faces charges related to “Foot travel in all thermal areas and [within] Yellowstone Canyon confined to trails” and “Violating closures and use limits.”
Yellowstone emphasizes the importance of visitors staying on designated paths to ensure safety in thermal areas. The park’s website warns that hot springs have caused more injuries and fatalities than any other natural feature in Yellowstone. Boardwalks and trails are designed to protect both visitors and delicate thermal formations.
While Brosnan’s citations are classified as petty offenses, they carry potential penalties of up to six months in jail and fines of up to $5,000.
In a similar incident in 2021, a Connecticut woman faced a seven-day jail sentence, a $2,000 fine, and a two-year ban from Yellowstone after venturing off the walkway and approaching thermal features.
Brosnan has been summoned to appear in US District Court in Mammoth, Wyoming, on January 23, 2024, as a result of the citations. He was in Wyoming filming “The Unholy Trinity” in October, just before the alleged misconduct in the park. Representatives for Brosnan have been contacted for comment.
