Groom leaves wedding guests in disbelief as he uses his own explicit vows
Expressing your love to your life partner at the altar in front of friends and family can be quite nerve-wracking, especially for those who decide to improvise their vows. However, one groom took spontaneity to a whole new level while making a lifelong commitment to his wife.
Bride Kaitlin Brooks and groom Cody Sheehan became the center of a wedding debate when a video of their eyebrow-raising vows went viral. Videographer Samuel Foree shared the clip on his Instagram page, @ckentertainmentservices, with the caption: “GENTLEMEN, take this as a sign to write those vows… right now.”
Despite the Kentucky-based cameraman’s encouragement, not everyone was supportive of Cody’s explicit vows. The video begins after Kaitlin delivered a touching and serious declaration of love, describing the ‘indescribable bond’ they share and how she has ‘fallen in love with him over and over again.’
The groom, facing the challenge of following such heartfelt words, exuded confidence as he prepared to deliver his vows. With a wide grin, he declared, “I promise to smack that… every chance I get. Booah.” Laughing to himself, he added, “That’s all I got.”
The guests, visibly shocked, were taken aback by Cody’s audacious attempt to inject humor into his wedding, especially after his wife had poured her heart out. A disappointed voice from the crowd can be heard saying, “Come on, Cody.”
The officiant, equally stunned, questioned Cody’s brevity, asking, “Is that it? Are you sure? That’s what you’re going out with?” The newlywed, undeterred, replied, “I didn’t write nothing down. That’s what I’m going with. We’ve made it this long!”
While some might consider Cody’s comment grounds for divorce, Kaitlin seemed to take it in stride. The officiant swiftly moved on, saying, “After that… touching… exchange.”
Videographer Samuel described the wedding as the ‘most interesting’ he has ever filmed, asserting that it was ‘certainly one for the books.’ The brief clip of the vows became a focal point for social media users, many of whom criticized Cody for his ’embarrassing’ words to his new wife.
In response to the backlash, Kaitlin defended her husband online, revealing that they share two children and have been together for 10 years. She explained in the TikTok comment section, “No worries, guys! I’m the wife of this lovely man. We aren’t a very serious couple. He also put the ring on my wrong hand. He doesn’t do public speaking, and my officiant knew that and still was trying to get him to say something. He’s a very loved and amazing man. It was funny!! The whole wedding was funny.”
Love, it seems, can indeed be blind and deaf.
